Offers no critical analysis of the original film (other than, hey remember when the Blair Witch came out? that was freaky, right?). In Blair Witch or Paranormal activity, its the same thing, that thing you know is around causing trouble but can never know what its doing or where it is.Little more than a magazine article published on its own, written to promote the most recent movie. In both cases its that thing hovering anywhere and everywhere over you. La Larona the spirit was kind of shown but not really if I recall. Left a LOT up to the imagination and was creep as fck. She gets there and it goes all down hill.īa Ba Dook was a great example of a monster hidden but shown. Before that, it was awesome and i'm creeped out at the flickering lights and wind in the basement and shadows in the house. The wiccan chick of course reads it and summons him and her body is taken over.

I was watching a movie last night where some kids find an old book in a summoning circle that summons Beelzebub. Its why paranormal movies get me the most out of all of them.Īs soon as the monster is shown, in most cases it ruins it.
Yah I have to agree, the unseen and viewers imagination is always worse. So yeah, I really really hate 2016 Blair Witch. This lore about the witch isn't scary because the witch shoots laser beams or some shit! It's scary because the viewer can imagine the poor kid standing in a corner, hearing the screams and cries of their friend as the witch brutally murders them yep, it's sadistic and cruel and that ALONE makes it scary. In it, the character is able to escape the witch by not facing directly at it and instead using the camera's light to navigate. Possibly the scariest fact is that the witch has been known to capture kids, and force one to stand in a corner while the other is killed. In an early part of the movie, interviews are conducted where the townsfolk describe what they know about the witch. One of the best parts about the original is the fact that the witch seems so REAL. Skinwalker? Rejected Dead Space villain? A preview of an unreleased horror game on the PS1? Terrible design aside, the fact that it even TRIED to depict the witch shows a lack of regard for a critical rule: the unseen is way scarier than the seen. In the newer version, the "witch" is explicitly shown several times and it's uhhhhh certainly something.
